Il Mondiale EnduroGP 2026 è tornato in scena a Fafe con il Gran Premio di Portogallo II, quinto appuntamento della stagione. L’MGR Racing Team si è fatto trovare pronto per l’occasione e, grazie a un Kyron Bacon in grande forma, ha portato a casa due solide giornate di gara.
Nel secondo GP portoghese i migliori interpreti dell’enduro si sono nuovamente sfidati tra prove speciali tecniche e un caldo estenuante. A mettere a dura prova piloti e team non sono state soltanto le alte temperature e la complessità del tracciato, ma anche la grande quantità di polvere che, sia nelle speciali sia nei trasferimenti, ha ridotto la visibilità, aumentando ulteriormente le difficoltà della gara.
I 45 km di trasferimento hanno ospitato tre prove speciali inedite. Ad aprire le danze è stata la tecnica e insidiosa Extreme Test, seguita dall’Enduro Test e dal Cross Test, che hanno mantenuto altissimo il livello tecnico della competizione. Ripetute tre volte sia sabato sia domenica, fatta eccezione per l’ultimo passaggio del Cross Test, cancellato dagli organizzatori, hanno determinato la classifica del quinto GP del Mondiale 2026.
Ritrovata la migliore condizione fisica, Kyron Bacon ha interpretato al meglio le prove speciali, mettendo in mostra tutto il suo potenziale. Sabato l’australiano è sceso in gara determinato e ha sfruttato al massimo le prestazioni della sua Kawasaki per conquistare la quinta posizione di classe nella Enduro 2. Domenica il Diavolo della Tasmania ha aperto la giornata con il secondo tempo di categoria, mantenendo poi un ritmo elevato per tutta la gara e chiudendo quarto nella Enduro 2, a un soffio dal podio.
Kyron Bacon: “Sono davvero contento del mio fine settimana. Abbiamo fatto grandi passi avanti e finalmente siamo riusciti a concretizzarli. Ho firmato buoni tempi sia sabato sia domenica e questo mi motiva ancora di più in vista del Gran Premio di Francia. Sono curioso di vedere cosa riusciremo a fare. Come sempre, un grazie al team, che ha svolto un ottimo lavoro per tutto il weekend.”
Enrico Garelli – Team Manager: “Sono molto soddisfatto del mio pilota e della squadra. Abbiamo svolto un ottimo lavoro. Kyron ha dato tutto quello che aveva e i tempi dimostrano il suo valore. Domenica, nonostante le condizioni estreme, è riuscito a registrare riferimenti di alto livello: secondo nella prima speciale, poi ancora terzo. La strada è quella giusta.”
Archiviato il doppio appuntamento portoghese, l’MGR Racing Team tornerà in gara il 4 e 5 luglio a Pianello Val Tidone (PC) per la settima e l’ottava prova degli Assoluti d’Italia 2026, con Bruno Miró nuovamente al via nei colori della squadra.
EnduroGP Portugal II: Kyron Bacon Delivers in Fafe
The 2026 EnduroGP World Championship kicked off in Fafe with the Portugal II Grand Prix, the fifth round of the season. The MGR Racing Team arrived fully ready for action and, thanks to Kyron Bacon’s outstanding form, secured two solid days of racing.
In the second Portuguese GP, the sport’s top riders once again battled through technical special tests and extreme heat. It was not only the high temperatures and the complexity of the terrain that challenged riders and teams, but also the heavy dust, which reduced visibility both in the special tests and during transfers, further increasing the difficulty of the race.
The 45 km of transfer sections featured three brand-new special tests. The event opened with the technical and demanding Extreme Test, followed by the Enduro Test and Cross Test, both of which maintained a very high technical level throughout the competition. Run three times on both Saturday and Sunday, with the exception of the final Cross Test pass cancelled by the organisers, these tests determined the results of the fifth round of the 2026 World Championship.
Back to his best physical condition, Kyron Bacon delivered a strong performance across the special tests, showcasing all his potential. On Saturday, the Australian rider came into the race determined and made full use of his Kawasaki to secure fifth place in the Enduro2 class. On Sunday, the “Tasmanian Devil” opened the day with the second-fastest class time, then maintained a strong pace throughout the race to finish fourth in Enduro2, just shy of the podium.
Kyron Bacon: “I’m really happy with my weekend. We’ve made great progress and finally managed to put it all together. I set good times on both Saturday and Sunday, and that motivates me even more ahead of the French Grand Prix. I’m curious to see what we can achieve there. As always, a big thank you to the team for their excellent work throughout the weekend.”
Enrico Garelli – Team Manager: “I’m very satisfied with both my rider and the team. We did a great job. Kyron gave everything he had, and the times reflect his ability. On Sunday, despite the extreme conditions, he managed to post top-level times: second in the first special test, then third in another.. We are definitely on the right path.”
With the Portuguese double-header now complete, the MGR Racing Team will return to action on July 4–5 in Pianello Val Tidone (PC) for the seventh and eighth round of the Assoluti d’Italia, where Spanish youngster Bruno Miró will once again line up in the team colours.
